Corporate Video
Background:
Spheron developed a unique product that was targeted at a niche market. The task was to produce a single promotional video demonstrating features, benefits and applications. |
Company:
Spheron VR is a German company manufacturing high dynamic range (HDR) cameras for the utility, forensic and CGI markets. The compact device captures 360 degree images in any light condition and transforms them into a database driven content management system. |
Production
Spheron developed a unique product that had numerous features and advantages and was used within various industries. It was therefore difficult to explain in a single flyer or advert the product function and how a customer might benefit. I recognised that a video would be the best media to not only show the product's functions but to also put these in the context of various industrial applications.
Stage 1: Script
Using MS Word and screenshots from the Internet I developed a storyboard. This storyboard also contained a space for voiceover text. I had to consider timing; the length of the image or capture time displayed had to correspond with the duration of the script.
Stage 2: Recording
Based on the script, I filmed an actor using the device and captured the screen demonstrating the software solution. Utilising simple hardware and software for capturing both types of scenes made this video inexpensive.
Stage 3: Video production & Rendering
Combining all footage and adding graphics was done effectively using Adobe AfterEffects. 3D elements were produced in Autodesk Maya. The biggest challenge was to achieve smoothness of scene transitions and clarity of the message.
Stage 4: Voiceover
The choice of an artist was straightforward as we felt that a male voice would suit the technology market.
Stage 5: Rendering
Adding music and a voiceover to the footage proved to be tricky, as the timing of the voice had to match the footage and the music volume had to decrease during the voiceover elements. This was all achieved in AfterEffects.

Release
Once complete the video was heavily promoted via social media, broadcast during live demonstrations and exhibitions, as well as being added to the company website. Feedback was excellent, with many customers commending its clarity in particular.
